February 13, 2020: Rebecca Foon, co-founder of Pathway To Paris, has released “Dreams To Be Born” as part of the climate action organization’s new Climate Music Series. The initiative was launched on New Year’s Eve 2019 with “Legacies” by fellow Pathway To Paris co-founder Jesse Paris Smith, followed in January 2020 with “Drive To The Ocean” by Michael Stipe. The song series will continue throughout 2020, with original recordings from past Pathway concert performers and new contributors alike, furthering the organization’s mission to present music that aims to express and galvanize awareness about the urgent transformations required to heal and save the planet. All proceeds from the series benefit Pathway To Paris and support its work in engaging citizens and helping to implement the 1000 Cities Initiative for Carbon Freedom.

“Dreams To Be Born” was written and performed by Rebecca Foon, who sings and plays piano and cello on the song. The track also features contributions from Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) on violin and Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire) on double bass. It was recorded at Montreal’s Breakglass Studio by Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes). This release is accompanied by beautiful cover art from Montréal artist Brigitte Henry.

The lyrics of “Dreams To Be Born” express a sense of hope, calling for more enlightened action, connected to love for our planet and the interconnection of all life. The words imply the urgency for a major transformational and courageous shift that is deeply needed in today’s world.

“Dreams To Be Born” is available now in partnership with Bandcamp:

“Dreams To Be Born” will also appear on Foon’s forthcoming full-length record Waxing Moon, out 21 February 2020 on Constellation. Foon will be donating all proceeds from the entire record to Pathway To Paris.

Learn more about Waxing Moon by Rebecca Foon:

“This album is by far the most raw record I have ever made, and the most direct channeling of emotions I have ever put into music. We are in a time of enormous sadness and fear as humanity and all sentient beings are faced with incredible unknowns about our collective future. This album channels my love for our beautiful world and the personal heartbreak I have experienced over the last couple of years in my own life, amidst despair over our dying planet facing mass extinction. Making this music was a way for me to communicate on some level the interplay between the micro/macro, the exchange between trying to live in each precious moment while navigating the beauty, chaos and pain of being alive together, the spirit world that surrounds us and how it can touch us in the most unanticipated magical ways, and the human struggle of how to truly make a positive impact in these dire times – with all the hope and loss of hope that comes with it. Making this music has saved me on so many levels, and I hope it can provide some connection to another realm for a moment as it did for me. I am so grateful. With love and hope for a renewable, equitable and just world. xoxo” Rebecca Foon

Dreams To Be Born

Her eyes were wide
To this beauty
And eternal light
Chains dismantling
Civic harmony
Transcending upon me
A dream to be

On a blade of grass
On a blade of grass

Her eyes wide open
To this eternal light
Forgiveness returning
Our honest souls unite

So wide awake
So deeply awake

To something so true
A calling for more
Of our dreams to be born
Of our dreams to be born
Of our dreams to be born
Of our dreams to be born

Bringing together emerging and leading musicians & artists, the Climate Music Series serves as a call to action, urging the international community to ramp up ambition towards a climate safe future for all.

Let’s step into 2020 with optimism, renewed hope, and a clear vision of the roles we must fully embrace in order to tackle the dire work ahead. Let’s make this the decade that turns the Paris Agreement into reality. Together we must transition from the era of fossil fuels to a new era of 100% renewable energy.

“Cities play a critical role in transforming our world out of the era of fossil fuels and into a renewable world. This is our time to make this shift and transform our cities to become sustainable, resilient cities for us all and future generations. This is our chance as our window of time is narrowing.” – Co-Founder of Pathway To Paris, Rebecca Foon

“In the world of music, the best way to improve is through practice and collaboration. This is the same with the critical issue of climate change. We must join together to make this the most ambitious collaboration of our century. We will not be able to implement crucial and challenging solutions to climate change, plastic pollution, and all urgent environmental problems as long as we stand idle and divided. Inseparable from the issue of climate change is the need for world peace, global communication, and an international collaboration unmatched by any event in human history.”– Co-Founder of Pathway To Paris, Jesse Paris Smith

“Artists are blessed with the ability to inspire and incite, but in the end it is the people who facilitate change. Pathway To Paris brings these forces together, art and activism. Their events bring to the forefront our civic duties and the joy and possibilities of unity.” – Patti Smith
